We were the generation of children who played a lot in nature. Nature in the neighborhood. Then we told our parents about our experiences. Once I noticed something silvery under a piece of moss that I wanted to pull out, it moved and I was startled. It was a small snake or a worm. I didn’t know what it was. So I took the animal home in my pocket. I placed it in a terrarium with moss and leaves. When I told my father about it, he said it was an earthworm and asked me where it was. We went into the laundry room and he said, “That’s a slowworm.”. He told me to let her go. I said no, I have to feed her so she doesn’t starve. My father told me, “Don’t worry, nature will take care of it.”. And we released the slowworm into the garden.

Ein anderes Mal bemerkte ich, dass das wilde Gras in unserer Nachbarschaft bespuckt worden war. Hm, Leute spucken auf das Gras, dachte ich. Allerdings waren viele Graspflanzen bespuckt, und ich hielt es für unmöglich, dass Leute das wilde Grasland bespuckten. Später erfuhr ich, dass ein Parasit diesen Schaum produzierte, der wie Spucke aussah.
Another time I noticed that the wild grass in our neighborhood had spit on it. Hm, people are spitting on the grass a lot, I thought. However many grass plants had spit on it and I felt it was impossible, that people would spit all over the wild grassland. Later I learned, that a parasite was producing that foam that looked like spit.
