My patent was developed at UBS during in the profitability analysis module of the SAP system in Basel at the time. It was a simple but genius algorithm to calculate the profit optimized refinancing of a bank. Here a simple and comprehensive example :
a bank has savings and loan functions, they make money by lending out money for a higher percentage than they pay on savings accounts.

This means the bank makes the most money in the combination where it earns 34, so it uses those funds first til they are allocated, then +25, +12, +3, – 10.
This is simple and doesn’t work in reality because according to the law a bank can lend up to 17 times against a savings function, which again many bank are illegally exceeding.
The question at the time was what happens if it becomes negative? This was an illogical question, because you either have savings functions or you don’t. Of course the profit optimized algorithm could become negative if a bank would pay more in savings functions than it would earn in loan functions, that would be bad marketing and a management problem. Which bank would pay 10% for a savings account and only ask for 2% on a mortgage?
At the time in New York, I was told that risk manager at Morgan Stanley thought this algorithm would make the traders at Wallstreet go away.
The algorithm was invented at UBS during an SAP profitability project the consulting agency was Muth. After the project I was told it would work, well maybe they never got it, there are people who buy a car and cannot start it or always drive in first gear.
About 10, 15 or 20 years later I had a midlife crisis, SAP projects became uninteresting, I thought about studying medicine and ended up filing my refinancing idea as a patent.
When Mario Draghi became president of the European Central Bank he talked about negative intrest on savings functions, that is bank robbery in my eyes. I still don’t understand what was really meant if my algorithm becomes negative.
